Product Review: SodaStream (and a GIVEAWAY!)

I am in love with my SodaStream!! For quite a while I've been trying to get away from hauling soda bottles to and from my house, as well as bottles of carbonated water.  Plus, I feel so guilty.  Think of all the bottles that we throw away or that we hope get recycled each day.  I'm trying to find ways to be more "green".

The folks at SodaStream were nice enough to let me review the "Genesis" model of their product.  In fact, two very large boxes showed up on my step, and I was like a little kid on Christmas Day unpacking the goodies that they had shipped me.  Not only did they provide me the "Genesis", but a plethora of different flavored soda/water concentrates as well.  I was thrilled!!

Set up for the SodaStream was a breeze.  Seriously!  Take the machine out of the box, pop in the CO2 canister, fill one of their bottles to the fill line, screw it onto the machine and press the carbonation button on the top of the machine, unscrew and add your desired flavor concentrate.  Did you notice that I didn't list "plug in the machine" as a step?!?!  Can I even tell you how happy I am that it's one kitchen appliance that doesn't require electricity?  Because of that, this little beauty has been used in the kitchen, on the porch, and even outside!

Now, let's talk about flavors.  This is where it gets fun.  :-)  Their version of Root Beer is super yummy, and I love their MyWater Essence flavors (I haven't tried the mint yet...but I will!).  I love that their line of "sparkling naturals" don't contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.  But, by far - my favorite is their Pomegranate Peach Green Tea.  Soooo good!  And JC is in love with their Energy Drink.  No more $3 per energy drink for him!

Which brings me to the topic of money.  The money I've saved in bottle deposit, and purchasing soda/bottled carbonated water has been considerable.  So much that I likely could have bought another SodaStreams by now.  Each of the flavor concentrate bottles runs from $4.99 to $9.99 and makes twelve or so liter bottles. The MyWater Essences makes about 20 liter bottles.  Eventually, I'll need to exchange the carbonator as well.  You heard me right - EXCHANGE.  SodaStream will let you exchange the empty CO2 cartridge for a new full one for a small fee - and provides you with local locations where you could exchange the cartridge as well.  Given that it takes time to ship your empty canister back and get a new one (not even considering the cost of shipping), I would highly recommend that you go to a local store and exchange your CO2 canister.

Here's the best part:

The fine folks at SodaStream provided me with the "Genesis" to review - AND gave me the "Fountain Jet" to give away to one of you lovelies!!  How cool is that?!?! Additionally, I will let you choose one flavor (Ginger Ale, Cola, Diet Lemon Lime or Root Beer)to try.
