I'll miss you, my imaginary friends!

This Friday (tomorrow) will be a sad day in my life.
What Not to Wear will air its final episode.

After ten years, the show is ending...and my dream never came true.  What dream?  Oh, to be on an UNTELEVISED version of WNTW, complete with drinks out every night with Stacy and Clinton.
{I swear, I was really holding out hope that it would happen.}

WNTW manhattan ::: a tribute to What Not to Wear, bakeat350.blogspot.com #WNTW
Since drinks with S & C never happened, we're going to make one.  Not quite as fun.  More on this later...

WNTW manhattan ::: a tribute to What Not to Wear, bakeat350.blogspot.com #WNTW
...I even broke out my vintage cocktail glasses.  Side note: maraschino cherries in the bottom of a glass?  The best.

A. Stacy and Clinton.  I love them.  Love.  When people have been your imaginary best friends for 10 years, it's hard to capture it in one bullet point.  From Stacy's "Shut the front door" and Clinton's "Turtle Lady" song, what can I say?  They complete me.

B.  Ted. Oh my GOSH!  Ted!!!  I want Ted to be my next-door neighbor and maybe I could trade him baked goods for hair advice.  Ted has this amazing eye for what color and cut will really flatter.  He has a gift. (And, hello, he's from Texas!)

C. Carmindy. You know the part when Carmindy says, "take a look at you..." or something similar?  That's where the water works start.  I don't even have to see the person.  Tears. On Cue.  Plus, love the "Carmindized" face...and how she brings out people's natural beauty!

Despite the fact that I still own a few too many pairs of capri pants, here's what I've learned from Stacy and Clinton over the years...
  • COLOR, TEXTURE, PATTERN, and SHINE
  • completer pieces make an outfit,
  • you can mix metallics (this was HUGE for me!),
  • fit trumps pattern,
  • outfits and accessories should "go," not match (ah...so can I go back and re-do the 80s?),
  • emphasize the smallest part,
  • saturated tones (no oatmeal),
  • dress for the size you are, not the size you were or want to be,
  • your clothes should make you happy!

Still, I need Stacy & Clinton's help.  Still, I need a major closet intervention.  But, I do hear their voices in my head as I'm shopping.  And this kind of hearing voices, I think (?), is a good thing.

Cheers to 10 seasons of What Not to Wear!  Cheers to Stacy, Clinton, Ted, and Carmindy!  Friday nights won't be the same without you!!!

In case you're needing more Stacy and Clinton (like me), I really enjoyed Stacy's latest book, The Truth about Style. It's a great read. Clinton has a new book out, too!  It's called Freakin' Fabulous on a Budget.  It's brand new, so I haven't read it....but feel sure that it's, well, fabulous!  Cheers!

Root Beer Float Martini Dessert Cocktail

Saturday is game night around these parts. Spades, Poker, Uno, Skipbo, Rummy and even Farkle or Yahtzee from time to time. I tell ya we are wild and crazy like that! We invite a handful of our best friends over and we catch up over some yummy snacks that I will serve and from time to time our friends will bring our favorite game night treat. Root Beer floats!

A 2 liter bottle of root beer and a 1/2 gallon of ice cream is all it takes to satisfy this crew. But from time to time Chad and I enjoy our favorite root beer float in a grown up version. The Root Beer Float Martini is a cocktail that will wow you and your guests!

Caramel Apple Pie Martini - The Ultimate Fall Cocktail

Some of my fall flavors are apples and caramel. I have a ton of favorite apple dishes; savory and sweet. But, caramel... Caramel truly invades my every thought during the fall and winter. Caramel and apple are the perfect combination in desserts.

My brilliant husband has transformed my favorite fall flavors and perhaps my favorite pie into a magnificent cocktail. The Caramel Apple Pie Martini is everything I could ask for in a fall cocktail, all in one glass. The caramel and apple flavors truly come through in this cocktail. It is silky and perfectly balanced with just a little kick to keep you warm.

Tequila Sunrise Classic Cocktail

If I had to describe myself, I would have to say I am not necessarily hip or up to date on the trends. I love the classics. Things that stand the test of time. Classic movies; I love Breakfast at Tiffany's and a gazillion other movies from years ago. Classic music soothes my soul; dare I say I love 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's music. Classic cars... Oh my heavens don't get me started. And of course classic cocktails.

Sex on the Beach - The Classic Beach Cocktail

The Sex on the Beach cocktail makes me think of spring break in Florida. Sunshine, sandy beaches, sun tanning, being young and having fun. I never did make it over to Fort Lauderdale for spring break (where this cocktail was originally created in the late 80's) , but I did make great memories on Fort Myers, Sanibel and Boca Grande beaches, that's for sure!

Tennessee Orange Sweet Tea Cocktail

We have an entire category of cocktails that we call sippin' drinks. They are mostly comprised of cocktails that contain bourbon, cognac, and whiskey. I think of sittin' on the porch swing on a warm summer night sippin' on cocktail. That's a 'sippin' cocktail'!

Summer Favorite Cherry Limeade Cocktail

Last year this time summer was in full swing and we were hanging with my parents. We went to Sedona together and really just enjoyed each others company. It was a fantastic visit. I have a rather large family (not like Duggar large) I mean like Italian size and volume. I do enjoy visiting my whole family in Florida. Even all the volume, kids and drama. Come on with that many people there is bound to be something going on.
