CSA Wednesdays: Herbal Tea and Salad with Asparagus

Last week was our first week of receiving our CSA!  I was so excited I couldn't wait to get home so I could see what we received from Goodness Grows.  Since it was the first share of the season I knew there wouldn't be a whole lot in the bag but I was still excited to see it.

In our bag this week was mixed salad greens, radishes, asparagus, herbs for tea, goat milk soap (in the shape of a goat!), and a half dozen eggs.  I immediately knew what I was making with the salad green and asparagus.  A few months ago I made this amazing Bacon, Gruyere, and Asparagus Salad that had an option of putting an egg on top.  It was like this CSA bag was made for that salad!

Since I also wanted to make something new, I tried making an herbal tea mix with the herbs and it turned out well.  I use loose leaf black tea and chopped up some of the fresh herbs then put them in a tea infuser spoon.  I found this great heart shaped one at a yard sale several years ago and bought it for a quarter...totally worth it!  Plus, it was pretty chilly here in Frostburg over the weekend so I had several cups of this yummy tea.  I can't wait to see what's in store for us next week!

Herbal Tea (a Hezzi-D original)
3 T. loose black tea
1 T. mint leaves (I had apple mint and chocolate mint)
1 t. chamomile leaves
1 t. bee balm
1 lemon wedge
1 T. honey

1.  Coarsely chop the mint, bee balm, and mint leaves.  Mix with the black tea.

2.  Place a teaspoon of the tea mix in a tea infuser spoon and set aside.

3.  Heat a kettle of water over medium high heat until it begins to simmer but does not boil.  Remove from heat and place the tea infuser spoon in the water gently stirring several times.

4.  Let the tea steep for 5 minutes and then stir several times with the spoon.  Remove the spoon, add the honey, and squeeze the lemon into the mug.  Enjoy!
