Hey hey! Last week we had an incredibly fun, foodie weekend in Sydney with our good friend An!
|
The Opera House |
As you may have gathered, it’s been quite busy around here, what with moving house and all. We actually booked the trip months ago, and it just so happened that we moved house the week before the trip… and in other exciting news, I started a new job the day after we got back! Phew – exciting times! It was a total coincidence, but so lovely to have a fun weekend away to celebrate the new start!
|
Darling Harbour at night |
The weather was amazing - we had lovely winter days: 18C and sunny. Perfect for walking around, exploring and eating!
|
Hyde Park |

I’ll be blogging the individual venues in more detail, but for now I’d like to show you a brief glimpse of our Sydney eats! (Needless to say, the culinary itinerary was planned months in advance, with most venues chosen after seeing tantalizing tweets and blogs from some of my fave Sydney peeps).
On our first night, we had dinner at the
Momofuku Seiobo bar.
|
Momofuku Seiobo's Confit Chicken Wings - $16.00 |
Beer and chicken wings! (And yes, we had the pork buns too).
Right opposite Momofuku Seiobo is the
Adriano Zumbo dessert train and pâtisserie. The line for the dessert train was a bit long, so we picked up some pastries and macarons, and ate them back in the hotel. Very decadent!

Stash from Adriano Zumbo |
The next morning, we stopped in at
Flour and Stone in Woolloomooloo for lovely homestyle cakes and coffee.
|
Breakfast at Flour and Stone, Woolloomooloo |
Lunch was crazy cocktails and tasty bites at
White Hart in Neutral Bay.
|
The Breakfast Mojito (serves 2) - $20, White Hart |
We tried not to eat too much though…
...because later that night we were doing the
full degustation at Tetsuya’s! OMG! What an incredible treat! It definitely lived up to expectation and I literally loved every single course, but must give a special mention to the absolutely gorgeous confit ocean trout with fennel and unpasteurised caviar. Meltingly soft and just beautiful!

We recovered the next morning with a healthy(ish) brunch at
Orto Trading Co. in Surry Hills. Even though I’m not much of a juice drinker, the highlight of brunch for me was the refreshing strawberry, apple and orange juice. So pretty!
|
Apple, Orange and Strawberry juice - $6.50 |
Later that day we had lunch at the fancy new
food court in Westfield on Pitt Street - some much needed sustenance during a day of shopping and walking!
|
Din Tai Fung's Xiao Long Bao - $5.80; Charlie & Co Fries; Sassy Red's Chicken Char Kway Teow |
I thought it was pretty cool that we could have a variety of different foods in the one spot, but to be honest the quality was a little underwhelming. (Sassy Red's char kway teow, in particular, was completely bland - disappointing!) Food-wise, I think we'd have been better off going to an original incarnation of one of the restaurants, rather than their food court outlet. Oh well, next time!
Let's have a look at some non-food photos too:
|
Lorikeets in The Rocks |
|
Street Art |
|
Proud seagulls at Circular Quay |
|
Buildings |
|
A photo of me taking a photo of the Opera House! |
Thanks Sydney, it was grand!
